Saltwater Aquarium

An enchanting saltwater tank is a wonderful re-creation of the ocean. Most fish residing in saltwater aquariums are actually collected in the wild. Saltwater fish, or “marine” fish, are ocean inhabitants. In addition to marine fish, you can host interesting reef fauna and invertebrates, such as eels, clams, crabs, corals and starfish in a saltwater tank.

Saltwater aquariums can be more expensive than freshwater tanks, and a bit more precarious to maintain. The ocean – vibrant and ever-changing as it seems – is actually a very stable ecosystem. The marine reefs are balanced and enduring. Therefore, when marine creatures are placed in captivity in a small tank, any variability in the environment can affect the health and life-span of the citizens of the aquarium.

Despite the seemingly daunting implications of a saltwater tank, the attraction and reward of maintaining these unique and beautiful sea creatures offsets the challenges. With a saltwater tank you can cultivate livestock that is much more vibrant and colorful than what is found in a freshwater tank. With a little effort and education, or simply a maintenance plan carried out for you by Aquarium Shine, keeping a saltwater aquarium can be a gratifying endeavor.

Generally, the term saltwater aquarium refers to a marine fish-only aquarium, without the full reef environment. The décor in tank may consist of dead coral, as opposed to live coral, and not include reef fauna like in a reef aquarium.
